If you’re considering bringing your pet to Animal Health Care Denver, we want to welcome you and let you know that we can’t wait to learn about you and your pets. You’ll feel like part of the family from the moment you walk through the door.

At Animal Health Care Denver, we believe that it’s our job to treat your pets with as much attention and care as you do, paired with an unmatched level of expertise in veterinary care and medicine. With that in mind, we have a set of procedures in place to ensure that we know everything we need to know about your pet when you visit for the very first time.

Any of your pet's past medical documents, including medical records, vaccination records, surgical reports, lab results or anything else that will help our staff know your pet's history should be brought to your pet's first appointment or emailed prior to reception@ahcd.vet.

At the first visit, our veterinarian will review your pet's medical history, and ask if you have any specific concerns or questions, you'd like addressed. Then we'll conduct a nose-to-tail examination to get a complete picture of your pet's health that typically will include any or all of the following:

  • Listening to your animal's lungs and heart
  • Checking your cat or dog's stance, gait, and weight
  • Examining your pet's eyes for signs of excessive tearing, discharge, redness, cloudiness, or eyelid issues
  • Checking your companion's coat for overall condition, abnormal hair loss, or dandruff
  • Examining your furry friend's nails and feet for damage or signs of a more serious health condition
  • Looking at your pet's ears for signs of bacterial infection, ear mites, wax build-up, or polyps
  • Examining the condition of your pet's teeth for any indications of periodontal disease, damage, or decay
  • Checking your pet's skin for a handful of problems such as parasites, dryness, lumps, and bumps (specifically in skin folds)
  • Palpating your companion's abdomen to access the internal organs to see if they appear normal and to check for signs of discomfort
  • Feeling along your cat or dog's body (palpating) for hints of illness including swelling, evidence of lameness ( such as limited range of motion), and signs of pain

We hope this will be the beginning of a long and successful relationship between us, you, and your pet that will include regular check-ups each year as well as any necessary care that may pop up along the way.
